Bust model of Tutankhamen ... Egyptian Museum

Culture: Pharaonic
Technique: Sculpted - Stuccoed
Style: New Kingdom
Materials: Wood
Type: Bust
Created: 18th Dynasty
Acquired: 1934 AD
Location: Egyptian Museum

This bust model of Tutankhamun is a unique artifact carved in wood, smoothed with gesso and painted. Gesso is a preparation of plaster and glue used as a surface for painting.

Although the body has minimal details and is without arms, the face is an accurate portrait of the young king who wears a flat crown with a uraeus, or cobra.
